Morena deputy Miguel Ángel Macedo proposed a measure to promote organ and tissue donation in Mexico City. His proposal aims to include, during the driver's license application process, the option to register one's wish to be a donor. Macedo explained the importance of having a solid register of donors to increase the availability of organs and tissues, thus improving the quality of life for patients awaiting transplants.
The legislator highlighted the need to reform Article 12 of the Mobility Law of Mexico City to promote programs and campaigns that encourage a culture of donation among those who obtain or renew their driver's licenses in the capital. Macedo noted that the lack of this option deprives many potential donors of formalizing their decision, so including it in the driver's license process would be a significant advancement.
Macedo also mentioned that he will coordinate with local and federal health authorities to establish mechanisms that allow driver's license holders to express their wishes regarding organ or tissue donation. The deputy emphasized that this practice has proven to increase the number of registrations in other countries, which could translate into greater availability of organs for those in need.
